How I use Delicious

Delicious, the social bookmarking site, is one Web 2.0 tool that I am familiar with. I have recently used it for professional purposes, but hope to one day see a practical application for personal reasons.

At the library I work, we host a Blog called Staying Well Connected. The purpose is to provide area health professionals in South Texas with information, resources, updates, etc. on health-related topics that might be of interest and use to them.

Currently, we have 10 staff members who contribute to the Blog. Each staff member has sources of information they access and sometimes pull from to post to the blog. I thought it might be useful to compile these sources, from on-line newspapers to government sponsored sites, and create a "living" pathfinder that everyone could consult and add to. Thus, I created a profile on Delicious, added and tagged some of the sources that were shared with me by blogging staff.

I used a common tag, hscconnect, for all the bookmarks I added. Then, I held an in-service to share with staff this new tool to use for bookmarking sites that they use for the blog. Some staff members already had accounts, but others created theirs at that time.

We have decided that hscconnect will be the common tag and we have shared our usernames, so that we can view bookmarks.

This project just began a few weeks ago, so it will be interesting to see how readily and heavily it is used and if it turns out to be useful!

Please take a moment and visit our Blog...
