I chose the name of my Blog for two purposes. The first reason was to indicate that I had just begun a new career after 8 years in public health. I returned to graduate school in my early 30's to get my MLIS. Everyone always jokes with me about when I plan to get my 3rd degree! But, even though my formal education is done, I will continue in my educational pursuits.
Enrolling in this course is part of my Learning Toolbox. I like the structure and accountability associated with taking a class. It helps me to set Goals and stick with them. As I mentioned in my first, introductory post, I am not well versed with new technologies like Web 2.0. Working in the library setting compels you to learn these tools because your patrons are using them and expect outreach, education and marketing to utilize these technologies. I learned in Library School that you have to meet your users where they are. In my case, that means I have to pursue learning opportunities, so that I can better serve our library patrons and achieve our mission.
The second reason I chose The Transplanted Librarian was because I recently moved across country to take my position. In addition to learning a new job, I am learning a new city and expanding myself personally. I think these two aspects together will help me to grow as an individual and as a new librarian.
